Mixing Developments
Here’s a collection of interexsting mixers and other hardware I’ve come across recently.
Numark has been showing off a prototype iPod mixer. I’m not sure just how practical this would be. You’d have to have your whole collection on both iPods or be restricted on the order in which you can play tunes. And as far as I’m aware there’s no pitch shift on the iPod so it’d only be of use for mobile DJs. However, createdigitalmusic.com has some suggested features for the proposed mixer.
The Numark 5000FX is a 5-channel tabletop DJ mixer with integrated sampling, scratching, and effects. There are 3 phono, 9 line (3 switchable to phono), and 2 mic inputs combining the best elementys of vinyl and CD / digital DJing.
Denon has a new spinning platter CD / MP3 player, the DNS3500. It has an impressive spec list (pdf) including built in effects and the ability to find, cue and play multiple MP3 tracks from the same disk.
